American Crane Case Study

American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO), a privately held U.S. company with headquarters in Eastern Pennsylvania, is a leading manufacturer of cranes, hoists and other material handling equipment, as well as components and parts for standard, custom and nuclear applications. With three plants totaling a combined manufacturing capacity of 226,000 square feet, American Crane has one of the largest floor type horizontal boring mills in the Northeastern United States, along with an onsite 200 ton load testing tower. In addition to a highly skilled manufacturing workforce, American Crane’s engineering staf consists of seasoned mechanical, electrical and structural engineers, including world class nuclear seismic experts.

THE CHALLENGE

Like many growing mid-size companies, the success of American Crane’s business created the need for more process automation in critical support functions, such as human resources and payroll. “We needed to be able to capture all employees’ daily time entries in an electronic format to allow for more eficient payroll processing,” said Denny Bono, IT Coordinator at American Crane. “The system that we were using simply didn’t support an eficient and accurate process for a company of our size.”
