An Introduction To The ASIS Retail Council

ASIS International was founded in 1955 and currently is worldwide leader among security organizations for security professionals, with over 38,000 active members worldwide.

The mission of ASIS is to provide professional security education, professional certification and connectivity to the global security management network.    There is a big focus on security education and ASIS has built a very impressive security knowledge base, which it makes available to members and organizations looking to improve and enhance the security mission.

ASIS also showcases an event each year, the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits that attracts thousands of security practitioners who will attend training sessions and look at the latest security technology offered.   This year the ASIS Annual Seminar will be held in September in Chicago, Illinois.  ,

On a daily basis the mission of ASIS is to strengthen the professionalism of all security practitioners and further highlight the role and value of the security management profession to business, the media, government entities, and the public.

ASIS also publishes the industry's No. 1 magazine—Security Management.

In order to ensure that ASIS is meeting the needs of all niches in the security industry they have structured councils which are filled with subject matter experts and leaders of the specific industry of which the council represents.  The Retail Loss Prevention Council is the council which I have the great privilege of leading.  Our council is comprised of the Loss Prevention/Asset Protection/Retail Security leaders of some of the largest retailers in the world.  We are focused on developing standards for the retail LP environment, communicating specific issues and initiatives that impact retail loss (such as ORC, Organized Retail Crime) as well as help drive legislation that allows retailer to combat the constant barrage of external theft.

Our goal is to help retailers understand those issues which should be of focus and concern as well as offer educational tools to help avert loss and profit erosion.

We hope to utilize our partnership with Integrated Solutions for Retailers to help further the Security message to retailers with targeted and timely messages of value.

Sincerely,
