The RSR report, WFM 2013: The Store Employee in the Customer Age, reveals a troubling contradiction between the stated priorities and the investment action that retailers are taking in the WFM (workforce management) arena.

According to the report, the WFM-related business challenges that well-performing retailers are most concerned about are:

  • improve top line performance by offering a different/more enjoyable shopping experience (62%)
  • meet the demands of consumers for better customer service (50%)
  • reduce labor costs as a percent of sales (46%).
