With access to enterprise information in a matter seconds, $1.6 billion Claire’s Stores, Inc. is wielding the power of Big Data.
Even for those of us in the retail tech arena, it’s difficult to completely wrap our minds around the processing power of modern enterprise business intelligence (BI) solutions. The grandiose claims made by Big Data analytics platform providers about their far-reaching, crystal ball-like capabilities often backfire, creating a mental disconnect between what BI is capable of doing and where BI is being successfully applied at the ground level. As a case in point, when Claire’s Stores, Inc. signed on with Big Data masterminds 1010data last year, the BI platform provider was quick to tout the win with a press release that read like this:
“1010data allows Claire’s to integrate data from throughout its enterprise and provide a self-service analytical platform for users to derive data-driven insights and receive fast access to business results.”
