Transaction Security: Intel Grabs The Reins

It’s becoming hard to recollect a major retail banner that hasn’t been compromised by transaction data theft. Chances are, at least a few of the tier-1 retailers that just popped into your mind have had their day in the public spotlight after their customers’ personal card data was exposed and/or collected by malware.
In spite of PCI (Payment Card Industry) mandates, in spite of the early adoption of EMV (Europay, MasterCard, and Visa) payment security standards by some retailers, and in spite of countless vendor-developed point solutions designed to meet these mandates and standards, it’s been a record breaking year for card data-seeking criminals. In the U.S. alone, tens of millions of consumer payment records have been hacked this year. That’s a considerable percentage of the U.S. consumer population.
It’s rampant. It’s out of control. And the ensuing consumer mistrust and discretion are jamming big wrenches in the high-tech community’s plans to connect every noun on the planet via the Internet of Things.
