Case Study: Family Dollar Saves Millions With EMS

Source: Venstar Incorporated

By Matt Pillar, Integrated Solutions For Retailers magazine

Family Dollar executives knew they didn't have tight control over temperature set points and lighting conditions in the company's 6,900 nationwide stores. But how could they have known that a simple tech investment to enable that control would heavily contribute to $20M in savings over the ensuing 12 months?

What Marilyn Morse, VP of real estate strategy and facilities at Family Dollar, did know was that leaving the control of light switches and thermostats to store managers wasn't doing her utility bills any favors. She and her team evaluated several EMS (energy management system) providers in their quest to centralize the company's energy spend, ultimately choosing Surveyor from Venstar. The decision to implement EMS helped Family Dollar achieve its immediate goal of utility spending reductions and a whole lot more.
