When I was a kid growing up in the 60s I could count on two things under every tree from the first time I can remember until my teens — underwear and socks.

When I was putting myself through college by working at the Broadway Department store in southern California, I could count on two things each holiday season — working long hours and parking several miles away to shuttle to work.
