What’s the level of PCI awareness among the merchants you serve?

Goldman: There’s increasing awareness where awareness used to be lacking. Some small retailers remain quite unaware of the risks posed by a lack of card transaction security, and thus unaware of the standards being imposed to implement that security.

Awareness, however, doesn’t always lead to action. Contrary to popular belief, the lack of action taken on PCI standards by small retailers isn’t a reflection of ignorance. It’s typically resource constraints, an inadequate cost/benefit analysis, spineless regulation by the standards bodies, or a combination of these that cause inaction.
