Direct Connectivity enables merchants to submit American Express Card Authorizations & Settlement files from the Merchant's POS system to American Express, without being routed through a Third Party Processor. By processing directly with American Express, merchants can save money, get paid sooner and eliminate a point of failure on their American Express Card transactions.

By processing directly with American Express, merchants can save money, get paid sooner and eliminate a point of failure on their American Express Card transactions.

Direct Connectivity targets all merchants, large and small, who are interested in reducing their monthly and annual processing costs.

Qualifying Products
There are three ways to get Direct Connectivity.
  1. American Express Point of Sale Products- We offer several products that are already set up with Direct Connectivity:
    • Terminals
    • PurchaseExpress®
    • Payflow
  2. Third Party Devices- Most third party devices already have split-dial capability which can be easily programmed to send American Express Card transactions directly to American Express. Ask your processor/reseller if they can support this feature.
  3. Dedicated lines
    • Leased (dedicated) lines - Recommended for large Merchants (>400,000 annual American Express transactions) where a host to host connection is desired.
    • Frame relay network - Ideal for merchants with over 200,000 American Express transactions. This technology provides the speed of leased line but uses permanent virtual circuits to route transactions.
    • Internet - Merchants installs Secure Internet File Transfer software provided by American Express. Once the domain, login and password information from American Express is entered, the merchant can automatically authorize, send and receive files.
