American Public University System And The Loss Prevention Foundation Create Scholarship Program To Support Career Advancement For Veterans In Retail Loss Prevention And Asset Protection

American Public University System (APUS) and The Loss Prevention Foundation (LPF), recently announced a professional certification scholarship for American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU) students. The organizations’ latest joint initiative is designed to benefit veteran students enrolled in an AMU or APU program related to retail loss prevention and asset protection.

“LPF will award up to 12 scholarships for certification review courses that will prepare students to take the LPQualified (LPQ) examination and earn a widely-recognized certification for the loss prevention industry,” said LPF President Gene Smith, LPC. “By earning LPQ certification, veterans will gain a better understanding of the profession, enhance their marketability, and be better prepared for interviews, all easing their transition into the field.”

As part of an ongoing effort to align AMU and APU’s fully-online degree programs with LPF’s certifications and industry standards, a Loss Prevention Management concentration was recently added to the Bachelor of Arts in Security Management program, according to APUS Security Management Program Director Dr. Kristen Obst.

“Retail loss prevention careers tap the related expertise that many military personnel gain during their service,” said Obst. “In addition to the store-based work that most people identify with retail loss prevention careers, there are opportunities in investigation, distribution and transportation support, and fraud prevention, among many other areas.”

AMU will cover the costs of the certification exam for scholarship recipients who complete the review course. Students must be in good standing, have completed at least 12 credits, and be interested in pursuing a career related to retail loss prevention. Applications are being accepted for the scholarship through May 31 and further details are available at the LPF scholarship web page.
