Burlington Coat Factory faced the challenge of efficiently handling workforce management processes across 417 stores in 44 states. An antiquated time and attendance system required significant manual intervention to complete zero-to-gross payroll for the retailer's highly distributed labor force, where pay rules varied not only from one state to another, but also within states. The manager interface that approved employee time-swipes and edits was cumbersome, requiring manual transmission of the file to the corporate head office. All store files also had to be integrated at the head office and manually transmitted to the payroll company. Burlington Coat Factory sought a solution that could simplify its workforce management processes.

Burlington Coat Factory chose Infor WFM Workbrain to optimize workforce management processes across the enterprise, and now has all 29,000 of its employees up and running on the system. "The old system required lots of different pieces communicating with each other," says Brad Friedman, senior vice president of Information Services, Burlington Coat Factory. "Any hiccup along the way would spell disaster and would take extensive effort to restore. We needed something that would take us into the future, as opposed to trying to manage things from the past."
