CVS Rewarding Customers With "Free Gas"

CVS/pharmacy, retail division of CVS Caremark Corporation, is bringing back their “Free Gas Card” promotion, allowing customers to start off their summer with savings on gas from in-store purchases of everyday essentials.
From June 1 through July 19, CVS ExtraCare program members have the opportunity to earn a $10 gas card each week when they spend up to $30 on specially-marked items that are featured in the CVS weekly circular—available in-store, in the Sunday newspaper and online at myWeeklyAd for convenient, personalized browsing. The site syncs customers to their local CVS stores, listing weekly deals on beauty, grocery, health, baby, seasonal, and household products. By creating an account online, ExtraCare members are presented with exclusive members-only deals, buy-one-get-one-free offers, ExtraBuck reward opportunities, ExtraCare offers, along with having the opportunity to earn their $10 gas card. Members also have access to view their purchase history and the ability to create online shopping list to print for next shopping trip.
The on-sale items are labelled with a gas pump icon, signaling to shoppers in CVS that it qualifies toward the free gas promotion. With staples including name-brand packs of toilet paper, laundry detergent, cases of Coke, diapers, cereals, and sunscreen—ExtraCare members not only earn free gas, they get more bang for their buck as prices are significantly slashed from original retail price, allowing for even more purchases. Members receive their $10 gas coupon immediately, printed on a receipt after in-store transaction or they can choose to wait up to 30 days to redeem their coupon. Customers can use their gift of gas money at any Shell, Exxon Mobile, and BP Amoco gas stations.
"This promotion is back by popular demand, offering ExtraCare members savings at the pump just by shopping at CVS/pharmacy," said Judy Sansone, Senior Vice President of Merchandising for CVS/pharmacy. During the week of Memorial Day, customers had the opportunity to earn free gas a few weeks before the launch of the program, as an unofficial celebration of summer. "We know it's a busy time of year, and this is the latest way we are delivering personalized value to our loyal shoppers."
