Demandware Acquires Mainstreet Commerce

Acquisition extends Demandware’s omni-channel capabilities and accelerates strategy to enable “buy anywhere, fulfill anywhere” consumer experience

Demandware Inc. the industry-leading provider of enterprise cloud commerce solutions, recently announced that it has acquired privately-held Mainstreet Commerce, a leading provider of cloud-based order management solutions. The combination of Demandware’s enterprise-class commerce platform and Mainstreet Commerce’s distributed order management solution will simplify order orchestration between online and in-store shopping processes; optimize store and web inventory; and enable retailers to deliver a “buy anywhere, fulfill anywhere” consumer experience.

Mainstreet BusinessFlow is a comprehensive order management solution with flexible configuration capabilities that support the complex business needs of leading brands and retailers. It includes full lifecycle support across all channels and devices, from sales origination through automated payment processing, order processing, shipping management, drop-shipping and fulfillment. Like Demandware, it is built and delivered via a cloud-based architecture, is highly scalable and easily adapted to meet customers’ needs without limiting the ability to upgrade. Demandware Commerce, combined with Mainstreet BusinessFlow, will enable retailers to enhance the overall omni-channel customer experience and manage the complete consumer shopping lifecycle in the cloud.

Demandware and Mainstreet Commerce share approximately 20 common customers, including clothing retailer vineyard vines, which is leveraging the two technologies to enable omni-channel shopping experiences. “Using Demandware Commerce as our digital commerce platform and Mainstreet’s BusinessFlow for distributed order management allows us to sell more effectively anywhere our customers want to buy,” said Ian Murray, Co-Founder of vineyard vines. “Since launching on the Demandware Commerce platform in early 2012, these two enterprise-class technologies have helped power significant growth of our digital channel, a meaningful increase in store sales, and enabled inventory optimization through both warehouse and store fulfillment. We are looking forward to working with the combined solution, which will translate to greater efficiencies for running our business in the cloud.”

“This acquisition further extends our leadership in delivering omni-channel consumer experiences that retailers and consumers demand. Fulfill anywhere capabilities are critical for managing the entire order lifecycle and delivering an omni-channel consumer experience. By combining our two solutions, retailers will be able to get these capabilities from a single vendor in the cloud,” said Tom Ebling, CEO of Demandware. “Mainstreet has built industry-leading technology that powers leading retailers and brands like LiveNation, Life is good, Brooks Sports, Urban Decay and Zumiez. We are thrilled to be adding Mainstreet’s entire team, including founders Mike Sandler and Nick Laurie, to Demandware.”

Demandware does not expect that this transaction will have a material impact on its 2014 financial results. Demandware’s management plans to discuss additional details regarding this transaction on the company’s fourth quarter and year end 2013 financial results conference call.
