Dick’s Sporting Goods announced its first specialty Field & Stream retail store will open August 16th in Cranberry Township, PA, 20 miles north of the retailer’s Pittsburgh headquarters.

Named after the iconic brand that has been a major influence of avid outdoors enthusiasts for 140+ years, the Field & Stream store will offer a large assortment of outdoor equipment, accessories, and services in hunting, fishing, and archery. The store will carry top brands including, Hoyt, Remington, Sitka, Sage, Simms, and Yeti. The Field & Stream store was created for individuals who are passionate outdoors enthusiasts, and will employ members of that audience who can share their personal experiences and expertise.

The addition of a Field & Stream store appears to be the latest effort for Dick’s Sporting Goods to diversify their brand with specialty store concepts. Dick’s has already expanded their brand by purchasing and  operating golf specialty store Golf Galaxy in late 2006 and, most recently, True Runner, a running specialty store opened  in late summer 2012 in Shadyside, PA, a neighborhood of east Pittsburgh.

Although the outdoor retail space is crowded, Dick’s Sporting Goods must believe by diversifying its brand, the Field & Stream specialty store will make a significant impact against outdoor competitors Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, and Gander Mountain.

During the grand opening weekend, there will be a number of activities, giveaways, and special celebrity appearances, including a performance by country musician Thomas Rhett. Customers will be able to learn tips and techniques from professional anglers at the 4,000 gallon Field & Stream bass tank, and be able to practice their archery skills at the Field & Stream archery trailer.
