SAP recently developed a "social media barometer," and we had the opportunity to speak with Jon Wurfl, retail solution principal, SAP America Inc., as to how it works. The barometer takes unstructured content (tweets from Twitter, for example, or blog entries), analyzes and parses the data, and extracts context to identify concepts, sentiments, people, organizations, and more. It converts consumer sentiment into a visual display for a retail business leader to quickly and easily understand the voice of the customer as expressed via social media.
