Captuvo SL22 Brings Retail Associates Where Shoppers Want Them – the Showroom Floor

Fort Mill, S.C. – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the first in a new line of consumer digital device accessories to help retail associates help their in-store customers. The Captuvo SL22 encasement turns the Apple® iPod touch® into a retailing tool with scanning technology and a magnetic stripe reader to read credit or loyalty cards. Ultimately, accessories like Captuvo SL22 can minimize the effects of showrooming by arming the store associate with the benefits of a digital device – including the ability to connect to the internet to look up products or verify pricing for a customer who is comparison shopping, and to ring up a transaction on the spot.

The accessory also brings retail clerks closer to customers. Despite the belief that shoppers cringe when they hear “May I help you?,” more than 60 percent find associates most helpful on the showroom floor where the customer makes their purchase decision rather than behind a cash register, according to the AisleBuyer 2012 Mobile Shopping Survey.

“Honeywell’s patented technology and industry-leading scanning solutions allow us to layer on sophisticated retailing capabilities to everyday consumer devices,” said Peter Fehl, vice president of global marketing for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “It’s designed for retailers, but it really benefits customers, who have a faster shopping experience with more complete product and pricing information. It’s a win-win.”

Honeywell’s Adaptus™ Imaging Technology 6.0 enhances the Captuvo SL22, enabling fast and accurate reading of virtually all barcodes, including those found on driver’s licenses and the screens of mobile devices.

The Captuvo SL22 is expected to lower the failure rate of customers using competitor encasements by as much as 80 percent, leading to less down time and lost revenue
