Hypercom Optimum L4105 Payment Terminal Receives Interac Association Device Certification For Use In Canada
Hypercom Corporation (NYSE: HYC) announced today that its Optimum L4105 multi-application credit/debit terminal has received Interac Association Device Certification, Canada's leading electronic payment exchange standards organization, for use within the Interac Direct Payment (IDP) network. Certification of the high-speed signature capture card device means that large, multi-lane retailers can use the L4105 in Canada, and that those with stores in both the U.S. and Canada can establish integrated cross-border payment systems.
Interac Association Device Certification enables U.S. and Canadian multi-lane retailers who are expanding their presence in either country to quickly create integrated cross-border payments using the L4105," said O.B. Rawls IV, senior vice president, North American Sales, Hypercom Corporation. "The device makes it easier for merchants migrating north to support multiple terminals in their payment networks and vice-versa."
L4105 key features include:
- Industry-leading transaction speeds, based on a 200Mhz 32-bit Intel XScale processor.
- A 64K color 5.7" 1/4 VGA screen, permitting exact reproduction of corporate logos, advertising and promotional messages to deliver strong branding and marketing messages at the point of sale.
- A bi-directional, dual-sided intelligent magnetic stripe reader, an exclusive feature that speeds checkout by allowing cards to be swiped from right or left no matter which way the magnetic stripe is facing, and do so with a 99.9% accuracy rate that virtually eliminates re-swiping cards and related additional fees.
- An advanced screen protection and replacement system, including a scratch-resistant Terrapin screen protector, automatic disabling of the unit to prevent accidental screen damage if the protector is not in place, and easy no-adhesive replacement of the protective overlays.
- Multiple connectivity options, with the ability to support RS-232, Ethernet, and powered or non-powered USB on the same device enabling retailers to switch POS systems without replacing their payment terminals.
- Optional Contactless RFID reader, capable of supporting all major contactless payment programs.
Interac Association is responsible for the development and operation of IDP, Canada's national debit network. Since its launch, IDP has become a part of everyday Canadian life. Millions of Canadians recognize the Interac Logo outside retail stores; the service enables shoppers to pay for purchases using their banking cards, a highly popular activity in Canada. In 2000, IDP surpassed cash for the first time as Canadians' preferred way to pay for purchases.
Hypercom's Optimum L4105 POS terminal is available for immediate purchase.
