JCPenney announced the upcoming grand opening of the very first Brooklyn, NYC store—designed with innovative and sustainable features, and eye-catching details exclusively incorporated into the new store.

The new JCPenney’s will be located among large chain names, Home Depot, Target, and Best Buy in the growing Gateway Center mall. “JCPenney is no stranger to New York City, and our stores have been a top trend destination for decades,” said Missy Ioanna, Brooklyn store leader. “Our new location at Gateway Center puts us in the middle of an exciting shopping district, and allows us to share the best assortment of apparel and home furnishings with the residents of Brooklyn, right in their own backyard.”

The 124,000-square-foot, one-story store has been constructed with inviting structures such as large glass paneling, JCPenney’s striking signature red color, and a new up-to-date JCPenney logo. Inside, Brooklyn customers will feel even more welcomed as the store includes large paintings of Brooklyn’s famous landmarks for décor.

New to JCPenney, the Brooklyn location will provide customers with easy options for selecting stylish footwear—the footwear location for each department including men, women, and children, will be directly across from the clothing section for customer’s convenience. Also added will be a section for bargain seekers to search for great deals in the official shoe clearance room.

The Brooklyn store is the first to host a remodeled Modern Bride fine jewelry department—“the first of its kind at JCPenney.” The grey tiles, wall coverings, and LED lighting enhance the shopping atmosphere for browsing of sparkling gems, diamonds, and the new line of watches from popular brands including Relic, Bulova, and Citizen.

Customers will be able to enjoy all of their favorite JCPenney brands such as Levi’s, Nike, and The Original Arizona Jeans Co., along with newly-introduced brands including The BODY by Elle Macpherson Intimates, Liz Claiborne, and more exciting new selections.

A full-service Sephora department will display hundreds of beauty products, skincare, perfumes, and makeup accessories in an engaging environment, allowing customers to test different shades of eyeshadow and lip color with trained consultants on-hand at all times to offer guidance.

With the integration of energy efficient LED lighting in-store and for the outside logo, occupancy sensors to automatically manage lighting, slashing use of natural gas by adding radiant heating in receiving dock area, a multi-layer roof insulation to produce higher “R” values, and resourceful 14.2 EER rooftop heating and cooling units—the new JCPenney center will use nearly 45 percent less energy than that of a JCPenney store built in 2011. The Brooklyn location is a continuing effort in JCPenney’s goal to earn certification by U.S Environment Protection Agency as “Designed to Earn the Energy Star.” “The new Brooklyn store not only solidifies our presence in New York, it also signifies another milestone in JCPenney’s turnaround,” Myron E. (Mike) Ullman, III, chief executive officer.

In celebration of the August 29 opening, the first 250 customers will be gifted with Sephora samples and a JCPenney gift card with a surprise amount up to $100. An outdoor grand opening party with rides, games, music, and favorites Brooklyn eats will be held the following day.
