Loss Prevention: CompUSA Selects Computrace LoJack For Laptops As Core Component Of Loss Prevention Strategy To Protect More Than 10,000 Notebook Computers
|
Absolute® Software Corporation, the leading provider of patented Computer Theft Recovery, Data Protection and Secure Asset Tracking(TM) solutions, today announced that CompUSA will leverage its Computrace® LoJack® for Laptops(TM) solution, a laptop security tracking solution that locates and recovers lost or stolen computers, as a core component of its overall loss prevention strategy. Specifically, Computrace LoJack for Laptops will safeguard display laptops at all CompUSA store locations throughout the U.S.
In the event that a display laptop at CompUSA goes missing or is stolen, the Computrace software silently contacts Absolute's Monitoring Center when the computer connects to the Internet. The embedded software provides the stolen computer's IP address and other networking information to Absolute's Theft Recovery Team, who works closely with local law enforcement to recover the computer. In addition to being an advanced laptop tracking and recovery solution, Computrace LoJack for Laptops is also a proven theft deterrent and loss prevention tool.
According to the National Retail Security Survey, retailers lost an estimated $37.4 billion due to theft in 2005. Over 81% of retailers surveyed by the National Retail Federation have been the victim of organized retail theft with their products resold at swap meets, pawn shops and through online auction sites.
"Retailers experience staggering losses from shoplifting and organized crime, which raise prices for consumers," said Joseph LaRocca, vice president of loss prevention for the National Retail Federation. "This rise in criminal activity has even forced retailers to develop a national database called the Retail Loss Prevention Intelligence Network to connect retailers with law enforcement officials nationwide. Retailers must leverage new technologies to combat these growing losses throughout the industry."
"Computrace LoJack for Laptops is an innovative technology solution that can effectively combat laptop theft, which has plagued the retail industry for years," said Scott Bell, Director of Loss Prevention for CompUSA. "By prominently displaying 'Protected by Computrace LoJack for Laptops' signs on or near our display laptops, we are informing the public that our laptops are protected by a powerful and unique tracking and recovery tool while at the same time providing a strong deterrent to would-be thieves. In the unfortunate event that one of our laptops does go missing, we can take comfort in knowing the stealthy software will help us recover it."
John Livingston, chairman and CEO of Absolute Software said, "We are extremely pleased that CompUSA has selected Computrace LoJack for Laptops as a core component of its overall loss prevention strategy. CompUSA is a well-established, highly respected retailer whose decision to utilize our technology underscores the need for effective laptop tracking and recovery, in and out of the retail environment."
Computrace LoJack for Laptops is also available as a retail product at all CompUSA store locations. The product is available for Windows® XP and Mac OS X v. 10.3 or higher. The price per unit for one year of service is $49.99.
