This article explores recent trends in Human Capital Management (HCM) systems. Inefficiencies inherent to legacy technologies slow down organizations as they attempt to manage their workforce needs. Nowhere, perhaps, is this more apparent than in retail where high staff turnover is the norm. Shifting seasonal needs require retailers to ramp-up over short periods, hiring new staff by the thousands. Then, just as rapidly, they must ramp-down to original staffing levels. The turnover is quick and fierce for local, national and global retailers. Countless moving parts overwhelm technologies for core HR, payroll, and workforce management. Retail organizations experience a technology gap that frustrate professionals in human resources, store operations, as well as end users. Thankfully, innovative vendors are finding ways to overcome that frustration.
