Consider this: the visual pattern recognition (VPR) technology employed in Evolution Robotics applications for retail scanning was developed by the same scientists that build VPR cameras for unmanned military spy and attack planes. Knowing this, there should be no guffaws when Alec Hudnut, CEO at Evolution Robotics Retail, suggests we might soon be scanning groceries with far greater accuracy from cameras mounted in supermarket ceilings. We caught up with Hudnut and asked him about the industry's acceptance of VPR.
