Panasonic, a leading provider of professional food service and retail technology solutions, announced recently at the 104th National Retail Federation (NRF) Annual Convention & EXPO a new modular Point of Sales (POS) workstation, the Stingray III. An enterprise-grade POS device compatible with a variety of Microsoft Windows operating systems, it features an all-in-one flexible, modular design for the retail, quick service restaurant (QSR) and hospitality industries.

“The retail and QSR industries are dynamic markets that require greater flexibility to keep pace with the ever-changing customer needs,” said Rick Albert, Vice President- Retail and Food Services Solutions, Panasonic System Communications Company of North America (PSCNA). “The Stingray III is a versatile all-in-one POS workstation that meets those needs, providing operators with the tools to improve both the customer experience and the operator bottom line. It offers the QSR, retail and hospitality sectors an enterprise-grade POS workstation that can provide them with the heightened flexibility, reliability and processing power they need while serving as a part of larger Panasonic retail solutions.”

The key components of Panasonic’s Stingray III include:

  • Flexibility and Modularity: The Stingray III’s versatile design features interchangeable touchscreens and allows easy customization to meet individual retailer requirements with unlimited mounting options. The increased modularity of the Stingray III also makes servicing and replacing parts a simpler process, allowing the workstation to be easily maintained, reducing total cost of ownership and increasing ROI.
  • Touchscreen and Promotional Display: The Stingray III offers a variety of display options depending on the application with 15-inch XGA (1024x768) and 17-inch SXGA (1280x1024) that feature clear viewing and durable touchscreen capability. These screens can be tilted from 20-90° angles with a 15° lateral swivel for improved user comfort while a secondary screen, with an optional touchscreen and customer-facing camera, is available to enable promotional video, advertising or order confirmation to be displayed to customers.
  • Versatile Interface: Equipped with a range of powered and regular COM and USB interfaces, the Stingray III, enables operators to connect to all peripherals needed, including additional external customer displays such as those in a QSR drive-thrus, chip and PIN payment terminals and printers. Operators can reduce wiring and costs from power adapters by powering devices such as these through the POS system.
  • Powerful Processor: The Stingray III features multiple, powerful processor options to meet specific needs of each business. Options include: Intel CoreTM i5-4590T vProTM Processor (6 MB cache, 2.0 GHz up to 3.0 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology), Intel Pentium Processor G3320TE (3MB Cache, 2.3 GHz) or Intel Celeron Processor N2930 (2MB Cache, 1.83 GHz up to 2.16 GHz). Depending on the processor, the workstation also includes Intel HD Graphics chip. The Celeron processor operating the device is fanless, reducing particle and dust intake and coupled with the IP-52 protected bezel-free display of the Stingray III, further minimizes risk of damage from the outside environment. In addition, the workstation features 4GB of RAM (max. 16GB) and either a Solid State Drive (SSD) or Hard Disk Drive (HDD).

The Stingray III is compatible with existing Panasonic POS cabling and peripherals, making the transition to an upgraded workstation simple for operators. Combined with Panasonic digital signage, security systems and tablets, the Stingray III provides retailers with a complete retail solution, allowing them to perform a variety of tasks such as: monitoring restaurant operations remotely, overseeinng inventory management, providing upselling opportunities, reducing shrinkage and increasing efficiency, leading to an increased ROI.
