People Counting: ADT Introduces People Counting Device Capable Of Integrating Into New And Existing EAS Systems

ADT Security Services recently announced the availability of Sensormatic® Ultra•Post® Integrated People Counting, a new component to the SmartEAS® integrated solutions portfolio. The ability to incorporate people counting sensors into the Ultra•Post pedestals helps ensure a simple and effective method of delivering essential operational information to the retailer. The solution can be used for new installations or retrofitted into existing systems.

The Integrated People Counting feature detects and counts shoppers entering and leaving a store and time stamps each count. The data is delivered to the SmartEAS UltraLink® system where detailed reports can be generated for review. This information can then be merged with time and attendance systems to optimize staffing and marketing systems, and rank the effectiveness of advertisements or promotions. It can also be used to determine the sales conversion rate – the number of shoppers entering the store to those who make a purchase.

This is valuable operational information for retailers that provides them with added return on investment from their loss prevention and security solutions, according to Jeffery Bean, vice president, ADT Retail Sales and Operations.

"Knowing how many people are entering and exiting a store and at what time gives the retailer the ability to look at a number of operational issues such as how many sales people are needed, sales rates and which ads and promotions are attracting shoppers to the store," he said. "With integrated people counting, staffing and marketing decisions can be based on concrete information and statistics."

Integrated People Counting is a new component of Sensormatic SmartEAS Solutions, offered by ADT, which is an integrated family of products providing efficient and effective loss prevention management for retailers with stores in multiple locations.

Using this new people counting feature with SmartEAS Solutions allows end users to produce standardized or customized reports on traffic flow and shopping patterns. These reports can be accessed on the retailer's network or through a secure Web site from any Internet connection using an encrypted password. Reports are available in a variety of formats including PDF, Excel spreadsheets and graphs, tables or charts.

Ultra•Post Integrated People Counting can be used in new installations or retrofitted into existing SmartEAS systems and offers key benefits including:

  • Accurate people counts – Captures highly accurate counting of every shopper entering and leaving a store.
  • Improved store aesthetics – By utilizing unobtrusive infrared sensors integrated into the EAS detection pedestal housing that are invisible to the customer.
  • Seamless Integration – The integrated people-counting device fits seamlessly into the EAS detection pedestal with no external mounting and fully integrates with alarm management.

"SmartEAS gives the retailer business intelligence by providing detailed information on loss prevention patterns and trends," said Bean. "People counting is a valuable piece to the retail puzzle providing additional integrated data that can be used to improve business processes."

The software for Ultra•Post Integrated People Counting is available in two reporting models. The retailer-managed model allows authorized users to access secure SmartEAS reports within the retailer's network or the ADT-managed reporting model allows authorized users with an encrypted password to access the reports via a secure Web site.
