POS Printers For The Post-Recession Retailer

By Barry Wise, Epson

According to Gartner, Inc. Worldwide, the IT industry is exiting its worst year ever, but will fully recover to 2008 revenue levels before 2012. On the heels of the worst recession since the Great Depression, retailers that had been holding off on upgrading POS and IT components are gearing up to make a move. There are many reasons why 42.7% of retailers — the highest percentage in the Integrated Solutions For Retailers 2011 In-Store Hardware Survey — cited plans to invest in printers. As the economy slowly returns to growth, retailers are more apt to proceed with caution and replace one or two components rather than sign on for a large-scale POS refresh. With customized interfaces, like Connect-It from Epson, retailers with legacy systems can benefit from today's printing technologies, making a printer-only upgrade an even more attractive option. By updating the POS printer, retailers can add efficiencies, like faster printing to speed checkout lines and increased reliability — without committing to an entire POS refresh project.
