Prolexic To Announce Significant Increases In Average DDoS

attack bandwidth and packet-per-second rates for Q2 2013

Who:Prolexic, the global leader in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection services.

What:Prolexic’s Q2 2013 Global Attack Report will be released on July 17, 2013

Key findings in this quarter’s report:

  • Average packet-per-second rate reached 47.4 million, a 1,655 percent increase compared to Q2 2012
  • Average bandwidth reached 49.24 Gbps, a 925 percent increase compared to Q2 2012
  • 123 percent increase in attack duration compared to Q2 2012, rising from 17 hours to 38 hours
  • 20 percent increase in total number of DDoS attacks compared to Q1 2013
  • China maintains its position as the #1 source country for DDoS attacks

Why:Prolexic tracks the types, origins and targets of DDoS attacks. Data forensics and post attack analysis by the Prolexic Security Engineering and Response Team (PLXsert) provides unique insight into current DDoS trends and threats.  Data from the Q2 2013 report indicates attackers have little fear of detection as compromised servers make it easier to redeploy and replenish botnets.
