Reser's Fine Foods Empowers Its Leadership With Ultimate Software's Manager Self-Service
Ultimate Software (NASDAQ:ULTI), a leading provider of Web-based human resources, payroll and workforce management solutions, announced today that Reser's Fine Foods is leveraging manager self-service, eSalary Worksheet, and ease of use through UltiPro Workforce Management's Intersourcing service model.
Based in Beaverton, Oregon, Reser's manufactures and distributes over 1,000 fresh and frozen prepared food products that are available in the United States, Canada, Guam, Mexico, and areas of the Far East. With approximately 2,000 employees in 27 states, Reser's began using Intersourcing in 2004 and was quick to take advantage of Ultimate Software's manager self-service functionality to authorize its remote leadership and administrators to have Web rights to critical information about their teams. With UltiPro, Reser's managers have real-time access to data on their teams, such as performance reviews and job histories, and they can handle processes like new hires, terminations, and address changes on their own without paper forms.
"Using UltiPro, we've been able to move the responsibility of many tasks from HR to the office or department where it makes the most sense," said Teri Shook, HRIS/payroll manager for Reser's Fine Foods. "With UltiPro's workflow, human resources remains in the loop because we approve most changes, but our role is moving from administrative to consultative in nature. We are spending more time providing guidance on HR issues such as hiring and managing employees, rather than keying in data."
Supervisors are also using UltiPro's Web tools to manage salary increases. Prior to implementing Ultimate Software's eSalary Worksheet, HR manually entered each employee's raise after receiving the appropriate paperwork from his or her supervisor. Now managers use the eSalary Worksheet to enter their team's salary changes at their convenience -- all at once or a few employees at a time. After managers complete the process, the information is automatically routed to the appropriate approver. Once authorized, the salary increases are effected in UltiPro.
"We used to hand enter each salary change onto a spreadsheet that was sent to our service bureau. It took three full days of work that are no longer needed with," said Shook. "The solution also makes it easy for us to review the salary increases for accuracy. When the raises for each location are sitting side by side in the worksheet, discrepancies are more obvious to spot."
With numerous managers with limited technical experience, Reser's was initially concerned about rolling out manager self-service, but company leadership has been pleased that UltiPro's intuitive navigation made the transition smooth.
"Our supervisors overall are nontechnical people, but they found the functionality in UltiPro's manager self-service easy to use. I have heard many positive comments, and, for the most part, the managers figured out how to use the functionality on their own," said Shook.
"By using UltiPro's manager self-service, businesses such as Reser's Fine Foods can give their supervisors tools to do their jobs more effectively and efficiently," said Greg Swick, senior vice president of sales for Ultimate Software. "It also frees time for HR, so department members can transform their workloads from tactical to more strategic, as Reser's Fine Foods is doing."
