DT Research, Inc., an industry leader in the development of information appliances for vertical markets, recently announced the expansion of the WebDT Mobile Tablets line with a rugged fixed-mount tablet designed to run applications that support specific business processes. For the first time, organizations can cost-effectively deploy fixed mount tablets operating in adverse computing environments such as emergency vehicles, forklifts, warehouses and watercrafts.

"Most jobs today require data access, but the majority of customized software deployments are designed for office-like environments," said Dr. Daw Tsai, president of DT Research. "Many businesses could benefit from extending computing power to workers in the field. We have leveraged our expertise in industrial mobile computing to create a tablet that is durable and at a price point that will allow deployments into new environments."

The device runs on Microsoft Windows XP Embedded and Windows XP Professional operating systems, which enable timely and cost-effective deployment of applications. The WebDT 520 can be turned into a ‘fixed computing device' that runs only specific applications that are necessary for a particular job function. This significantly improves ease-of-use, security and employee productivity.

The WebDT 520 enables real-time data access in harsh environments by combining high performance processing and wireless networking with shock, vibration and water protection. The compact, yet robust device is IP65 and MIL-STD-810F compliant, supporting water-proof and dust-proof operation and standards. The tablet also features a 12.1" TFT LCD display and fan-less design.

From the warehouse floor to the loading dock, the WebDT 520 can help increase productivity by reducing errors in receiving, tracking, and shipping, while providing rapid access to information. Built-in LAN connectivity and wireless WAN options ensure optimal network connection even in remote locations. In addition, an optional GPS module renders the WebDT 520 compatible with mapping applications.

The WebDT 520 Rugged Fixed-mount Tablet includes an optional back-up battery pack implemented as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), offering additional reliability by allowing users to continue to work and save data in the event of a loss in power. As with all DT Research products, the WebDT 520 comes with enterprise-class device management software, providing the convenience to remotely manage all deployed units.

Industry Applications
The WebDT 520 Rugged Fixed-mount Tablet provides robust and reliable computing for demanding operating environments, including:

Manufacturing/Warehousing – The unit can be mounted onto a forklift for ease of use while operating machinery and other logistics tools, helping manufacturers and retailers streamline their shipment and delivery processes. The brilliant, high-resolution touch display facilitates efficient operations in the production line for quick information access and data input – regardless of lighting conditions.

Transportation/Logistics – The GPS option provides mapping, tracking and weather updates crucial to tracking shipment arrivals and deliveries. The unit offers wireless capabilities for quick data input and access – and communication from anywhere there is network connectivity.

Marine and Boating – Waterproof and dustproof features are ideal for use on board watercrafts and ensure that the unit will reliably function regardless of location conditions. The GPS option provides easy access to important weather reports and storm tracking.

Emergency Services – The GPS feature is especially important for proper navigation to emergency locations as required by ambulance, police and fire personnel. Network connectivity provides real-time, accurate access to critical patient or location information as well as direct communication to hospital or other emergency facilities.
