Retail Execution Management: B&Q Saves Millions Through Improved Communications, Increased Efficiency, And 360° Visibility
B&Q's £2 Million Problem
B&Q, the largest do-it-yourself retailer in Europe and the third largest in the world, estimated they were wasting more than £2 Million a year in stock preparation and range review execution as a result of miscommunication and task mismanagement.
Stores were receiving information from many different directions in a variety of forms, and it was too much to handle. Internal analysis showed that on a weekly basis, corporate-level staff sent store managers over 2000 pages of email — more than half of which contained task-related information. It would take approximately 65 hours for a manager to read and prioritize the weekly email load, and B&Q store managers only work 39 hours a week. Obviously, things weren't getting done.
