Avoiding Remnant Stock Markdowns: Protecting Margins When the Popular Sizes Sell out

Footwear and specialty apparel retailers are all too familiar with the issue of Remnant Stock. Depending upon the company they may have another name for it, but any sized products can, and do, become "broken" from time to time. This happens when common sizes are sold out with no inventory to replace the sizes sold. Retailers will often remove the item from prominent display, sometimes removing the item from the floor entirely. Once a style is removed from the selling floor it is a race against time to gain as much profit as possible when the remaining stock is finally sold on clearance.
