The Honey Baked Ham Company of Georgia (Honey Baked Ham) operates 300 stores as well as 80 employees during the nonholiday season. The number of employees skyrockets to 8,000 during the holiday season, as the company generates up to 60% of its business during that time. Over the years, Honey Baked Ham has had problems with telecommunications, as the company didn't receive quality customer service to provide reliable and scalable networks to manage inventory and sales. And, with that many stores and employees, a reliable network connection is critical to business survival. Bill Bolton, VP of IT at Honey Baked Ham, had to determine a way to overcome these issues and do away with dial-up, satellite, residential DSL, and cable broadband connections.
