Shipping more Web orders from its DCs will give Stage Stores greater speed and labor savings, but the retailer is far from abandoning ship-from-store as a fulfillment option.

Gough Grubbs, SVP of distribution and logistics at Stage Stores, looks for the optimal balance between DC-based and store-based shipping, and what’s optimal for Stage Stores is likely to be out of proportion for other retailers. Grubbs has seen others move too far in one direction or the other, only to require a correction later on.
