Starbucks Adds Powermat Wireless Chargers To Stores Nationwide

Starbucks is integrating Duracell Powermat into stores nationwide, beginning with the San Francisco Bay area; the wireless chargers will provide customers with the convenience of charging their devices while they are in use, eliminating the need for an outlet.
Starbucks is well-known for their dedication to sustainability, and Powermat wireless technology is intuitive, smart, and ecofriendly. Customers simply place their computer, tablet, or mobile device on the Powermat base, which will be set on tables and counters for customer’s accessibility. Charging spots are managed by a central software system, enabling Starbucks to control wireless power policies, track data, and develop costumer offerings. The Powermat app uploaded on customer’s devices alerts customers of the nearest Starbucks location with wireless charging. The app also displays the Starbucks promotional banner on the app’s home page and presents customers with a sponsorship message during charge. The app supports policy settings, rewards, and customized promotions, allowing Starbucks to connect even more to customers while improving business models.
Power Matters Alliance, global company that provides industries with wireless equipped devices, has allowed for telecommunication members including Samsung, TI, Microsoft, HTC, Blackberry, AT&T, LG, Qualcomm, Huawei, and ZTE to have devices compatible with the Powermat charger. “Starbucks is a highly regarded global brand and its decision to rollout a Powermat network is both empowering and transformative for consumers and the mobile industry as a whole,” said Jeff Howard, vice president, Mobile Devices and Accessories, AT&T Mobility. “Today’s announcement marks an important time for our customers – they will have the freedom to stay charged effortlessly in Starbucks stores nationwide over time.”
Starbucks in the Boston and San Jose area offer Powermat now, while expansion will take place across the nation, including Teavana Fine Teas + Tea Bars. Europe and Asia Starbucks locations will also bring the new charging service into their stores by 2015. “From WiFi and the in-store Starbucks Digital Network to mobile payment and digital music downloads, we have always tried to anticipate our customers’ needs early in the adoption curve and provide a world-class solution. We are thrilled to offer our customers that next level of convenience with Powermat wireless charging. Rather than hunting around for an available power outlet, they can seamlessly charge their device while enjoying their favorite food or beverage offering right in our stores,” said Adam Brotman, chief digital officer at Starbucks.
