The complexities associated with enabling store-level fulfillment of orders from any retail channel is dominating the trade press of late. Haven’t many retailers been doing it for years?

Hamdani: Yes. In fact, many of our customers at Celerant are scratching their heads at all the buzz. Many small-to-midsize omni-channel retailers overcame the burdens of managing separate inventories dedicated to fulfilling Web or store orders long ago. Many more never had to deal with the overhead required to operate multiple, disparate DCs and warehouses. For many of them, retailing has always been omni-channel by the nature of their size and resources, so they haven’t been hamstrung by the need to consolidate channel-specific inventory repositories to gain visibility.
