Target is making strides in pleasing its trade-in customers through special promotions and deals. For a limited time, Target’s trade-in program is rewarding customers with triple the trade-in value on video games.

From May 18 to May 24, video gamers have the opportunity to take advantage of receiving three times the amount of original trade value on their used games. With a three game limit for the promotion, recyclers search for their games through a list of 1775 video games acceptable for triple trade-in value — games from consoles including Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Playstation Vita, Sony PSP, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox Original, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo DS Games, and GameCube.

“Have you mastered the latest video game and are now looking for the next challenge? We can help!” states the Target trade-in site. Customers can trade their games in-store or online, as the online option provides customers with an instant quote based off of condition of game and availability of its original artwork and case. Customers then mail in their games with a printed off pre-paid shipping label and receive pay towards a PayPal account, a check or Target gift card within ten business days. The Target in-store trade-in program is implemented in over 1,400 stores nationwide. Customers simply bring in their games to the Target mobile kiosk, receive a quote and immediately obtain a Target gift card or store credit.

In an effort to drive costumer growth and stay ahead of competitors including Amazon, BestBuy, Sears and Walmart, Target has been offering special savings through the trade-in program, such as their March promotion, allowing customers to trade-in their iPad 2 for half-off a brand new Retina iPad mini, granting them with $220 toward the $400 device. Also in March, smartphone trade-ins earned customers with an additional $50 on top of their smartphone value if they purchased a new iPhone 5s or 5c with contract through Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint.  The smartphone deal in April, allowed customers to trade their old smartphone and earn an additional $100 toward a Galaxy S5 through two year contract with one of the three leading mobile providers.

All electronic devices, when discarded, lead to dangerous exposure of toxic contaminants leached into soil and ground water, exposing citizens and the environment. Powered by eco-friendly NextWorth trade-in program, Target’s initiative is to reduce the amount of e-waste by recycling used computers, mp3 players, DVDs, video games, movies, game consoles, cameras, eReaders, GPS, cell phones, calculators and more. In 2012, over 3,400 plus tons of electronics were recycled by Target, assisting in the reduction of waste to the landfill by 15 percent. The trade-in program, first launched in August of 2010, not only benefits the environment but provides electronics customers with a greater shopping experience in-store and online, earning money for their unwanted items and gaining access to reprocessed items in excellent condition.
