When I talked with Hedgie Bartol, retail sales manager at Milestone Systems, I asked him which external pressures were driving retailers to adopt enterprise video management platforms: ORC (organized retail crime)? Employee theft? Queue management? Dwell time and people counting? To my surprise, his response was all of the above and none of the above. Bartol sees an industry that's matured in its understanding of the value of these (and other) applications that are enabled or enhanced by video. Now, he says TCO (total cost of ownership) is the leading concern among retail decision makers. Here, he discusses the case for open video management platforms as the clear path to scalability and thus lower TCO.
