In this day and age, any paper-based system can be riddled with time, labor, and cost problems. And so it goes with The Sportsman’s Guide, an e-commerce and catalog outdoor gear retailer, and its manual, paper-based picking process for its two Minnesota-based DCs. But a cumbersome, paper-based process wasn’t the only hindrance to the retailer’s picking operations. Scott Eichstadt, VP of warehouse and distribution, and Jason Clum, senior outbound manager and returns manager at The Sportsman’s Guide, knew that in order to remain competitive in terms of shipment accuracy and turnaround time, DC productivity gains were crucial.
