Third Staten Island ShopRite Opens

The ShopRite of Veterans Road in the Charleston section of Staten Island hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, June 30.

The state-of-the-art store at 3010 Veterans Road West is designed to elevate the shopping experience by providing services such as an in-store registered dietitian, online shopping, a beauty advisor and full-service Pharmacy Department. Customers can get groceries home delivered or opt to pick up their orders at the store through ShopRite’s convenient online shopping service, ShopRite from Home. Store shoppers will also find an extensive prepared foods department with a host of healthy meal options; an in-house pizzeria run by local restaurant operator Reggiano’s Brick Oven Pizza; a Dunkin Donuts, and a sit-down café decorated with children’s artwork.

The new ShopRite features nearly 3,000 sale items each week and well over 2,000 gluten-free and organic products throughout the store – all at ShopRite’s everyday low prices. Departments include a Fresh Bake shop featuring custom cakes and made from scratch sweets and breads; a floral shop with bouquets arranged daily; the “Cut Above” Meat Department staffed with experienced butchers; and seafood and produce departments that receive fresh, daily deliveries. Shoppers in the produce department will find a variety of fresh foods and special emphasis on organic and locally grown produce.

Customers can also enjoy a wide selection of freshly prepared meals, including Asian and Sushi specialties, grilled salmon, chicken, London Broil and roasted vegetables. At the Charleston Café, diners can order meals to take home or enjoy in the sit-down café decorated with children’s artwork from the Staten Island Children’s Museum. An on-site dietitian will be available to offer customers free, one-on-one consultations, store tours or meal planning, and the convenient online ShopRite from Home service is also available to ShopRite customers. ShopRite associates personally shop those online grocery orders and customers can pick up their groceries at the store or have them delivered. A new microbrew beer department at the store showcases Staten Island’s own Flagship Brewery beer.

“Our goal was to make the store functional and fun,” said Kevin Mannix, owner of Mannix Family ShopRites and a native Islander who operates the ShopRite of Hylan Boulevard and the ShopRite of Forest and Richmond. “We are thrilled to bring ShopRite to the South Shore, where customers will find all their favorite ShopRite offerings.”

The ShopRite of Veterans Road, which will employ close to 500 people, is outfitted with the latest energy-saving and sustainable technologies in refrigeration and lighting, including glass doors on the dairy and freezer cases, LED and T-8 lighting and environmentally-friendly refrigerant systems. Local artist Scott LoBaido was commissioned to create the American Flag at the entrance to the store.

To mark the store opening, the Mannix family made a special donation to the Food Bank for New York City.

“It’s a wonderful addition to our community. (ShopRite) is a wonderful corporate citizen and partner, and we are really appreciative of that,” Borough President James Oddo said of the new ShopRite during a community luncheon hosted by the Mannix family last month.
