(Rutherford, NJ) - Competition in point of sale (POS) software has heightened with another entry into this already teeming market. SYSTIME Computer Corporation has spun off a corporation named VersaPOS, Inc. to support the development, sales, and support of its software product by the same name. SYSTIME is a Global 1000 technology firm providing enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and wireless technologies.

Heading up VersaPOS is VP Dave Lakhani, who brings industry experience from sales and marketing work for companies like Cougar Mountain Software (Boise, ID), NewBold Corporation (Rocky Mount, VA), and Create-A-Check (Salt Lake City). During a recent visit to Integrated Solutions For Ret@ilers' offices, Lakhani outlined VersaPOS' strategies.

A two-time winner of the Microsoft RAD (Retail Application Developer) Awards, the VersaPOS retail management solution is 32-bit Windows-based and has a touch screen interface. It can scale from a one-register store (VersaPOS Lite) to a multilane chain implementation (VersaPOS Enterprise). The software is sold through a VAR channel for smaller installations and direct to large retailers.

VersaPOS's breadth of features makes it applicable for general retail, as well as specialty retail, including wineries, salons, and dry cleaners. These features include customer spending pattern tracking, inventory control, and frequent shopper programs. The software offers more than 175 built-in custom reports. One notable installation of VersaPOS is the Robert Mondavi Winery (Oakville, CA).

Lakhani adds that VersaPOS handles legacy data from older POS systems and integrates with ERP solutions such as JD Edwards (Denver) and with ICVerify's credit card verification system.
