Who's Making Progress On Their Holiday Lists?

Between Halloween and Thanksgiving, I’m never one to start thinking about holiday gift buying until December. Occasionally I will make an online purchase during Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but it’s usually for myself. Although I would consider myself more of a last-minute shopper, there are many people who start in early November or even earlier. Now with Halloween behind us and the holiday creep in full swing, who are the consumers making the biggest progress already with their lists?

Since mid-September, CivicScience has been asking consumers “How far along are you in your holiday shopping?” Thanks to the speed and efficiency of online research methods, we learned that of the 7,664 U.S. adults who plan to holiday shop, 23% (nearly one-quarter) had already started by mid-November. But if we only look at responses from the past week, we found that 35% of adult holiday shoppers have started, so it seems that the conclusion of Halloween and the start of November may be the marker for hitting the stores.
