Wincor Nixdorf Adds NAMOS Compact To Its Petroleum/Convenience Offering For The U.S. Marketplace
Wincor Nixdorf, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of IT solutions for the banking and retail industries, today introduced the NAMOS Compact global point of sale (POS) solution to the North American market. NAMOS Compact is a next-generation software application designed for the petroleum and convenience industry.
NAMOS Compact's multi-layer architecture enables petroleum and convenience retailers to integrate all typical industry-specific functions of the POS, back-office and pump system control. Its open interface architecture also allows additional products or existing back office and/or head office solutions to be seamlessly connected, including outdoor payment and car wash terminals.
Based on the Microsoft Windows XP Embedded operating system and utilizing technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, NAMOS Compact delivers the added benefits of simplified development, greater scalability, and increased performance. NAMOS Compact supports industry standards such as OPOS for standardized peripheral control, International Forecourt Standard Forum (IFSF), and XML.
NAMOS Compact consists of four seamlessly integrated parts - the POS application, Manager's Workstation, Wet Data Manager and a Back Office/Head Office Solution (BOS/HOS) interface. The POS application manages all peripherals, sales, payment, and pump system control functions; the Manager's Workstation performs end-of-day procedures, reporting, and system administration programs; and the Wet Data Manager, a stable and secure IFSF-compliant software, acts as an interface to all forecourt devices and controls the data and command exchange. Proprietary non-IFSF forecourt equipment can be interfaced with a forecourt controller. The application's flexibility allows retailers to configure NAMOS Compact for POS only, POS with a local back office, or POS with a remote back office. It can be used in all types of retail operations, including company owned/company operated (CoCo), dealer owned/dealer operated (DoDo), and company owned/dealer operated (CoDo). NAMOS Compact also supports a wide range of languages and currencies for global customization.
"Utilizing Microsoft technologies, NAMOS Compact offers the benefits of a scalable and powerful enterprise solution for the U.S. Petroleum industry," said Brian Scott, general manager for Microsoft's Retail & Hospitality Industry Solutions Group. "As part of our Smarter Retailing Initiative, we are working closely with Wincor to leverage the .NET Framework for NAMOS Compact and support their effort in delivering solutions that streamline operations and increase customer service."
"Wincor Nixdorf is pleased to introduce NAMOS Compact to the worldwide petroleum industry, including the U.S.," said Horst von Wels, director of Service Stations International for Wincor Nixdorf. "NAMOS Compact provides retailers operating in this segment with a simplified, modular solution that reduces complexity and cost. With NAMOS Compact, retailers for the first time have full control of all system components from a single source."
NAMOS Compact is currently installed in more than 17 countries and in 11 different languages. Following the completion of existing orders, by 2005 the installed base of NAMOS Compact is expected to include 25 countries consisting of 11,700 POS systems.
