Workforce Management: Marsh Supermarkets Signs Multi-Suite Lawson Software Contract
Lawson Software recently announced that Marsh Supermarkets, Inc. licensed the Lawson S3 Enterprise Performance Management, Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management Suites in the beginning of Lawson's second quarter of fiscal 2008, which will end Nov. 30, 2007. Once deployed, the Lawson enterprise software solutions will be used to support Marsh's growth plans and help provide operational insight and analysis across the company's financial, purchasing and workforce management processes. Lawson Professional Services will provide implementation and support services.
Founded in 1931, Marsh is headquartered in Indianapolis, Ind., and today operates 103 supermarkets. With nearly 9,000 employees, Marsh serves roughly one million customers each week. "With Lawson's help, we will be able to re-engineer our finance, IT and HR departments, enabling us to become more proactive and capitalize on business opportunities," said Bob Riesbeck, chief financial officer, Marsh Supermarkets. "We anticipate the time and cost savings attained with these improvements in the first year to equal that of our entire software purchase."
Before choosing Lawson, Marsh maintained a homegrown, disparate business software system that didn't meet the requirements of its growing business or the reporting requirements of its new parent company, Sun Capital Partners. After a detailed review of software solutions, Marsh selected Lawson for its ability to address the company's changing business needs and to allow the company to get a new supermarket's financial, purchasing and workforce management systems up, running and incorporated into the company-wide ERP system.
The Lawson system will also help Marsh improve employee productivity by eliminating duplicate data entry with automated workflows to streamline key financial processes, such as budgeting and forecasting. "Faced with tight profit margins and high turnover rates, retailers need a reliable business system that helps them make decisions with greater speed and certainty," said Michelle Schooff, industry marketing director, Retail, Lawson Software. "Our latest Lawson applications provide retailers like Marsh with sophisticated tools that will help increase ROI, grow revenues and improve the customer experience." Lawson's industry-focused software solutions help retailers integrate the systems they use to run and grow their businesses. Lawson has more than 350 retail customers worldwide, including 10 of the top 25 specialty retailers, seven of the top 25 grocery chains, eight of the top 25 global retailers, six of the top 25 food service chains and eight of the top 30 U.S. convenience store companies.
