Delivering on a Business’s brand promise requires all parts of the organization to be aware of the different demands and requirements from each function to meet customer demand. This necessitates a single unified view of aggregated Workload from both fixed and variable tasks day to day and hour by hour planned throughout the year to be matched equally against the capacity and cost of staff available to meet this Workload. This is scheduling.
Creating a schedule is a concept of matching the supply of labor to the demand for labor.
Defining the Estate
The first task is to document how the organization is structured to assign demand at the current level. To do this break down the operation by hierarchical Organizational Node. A natural continuation of this is to define the tasks performed at each level. In the chart below, the organizational nodes are Business Group, Department and Area
