The ability to build customized picking trolleys allows the solution to be adapted to suit the range of items to be picked, whether large or small. Each trolley is equipped with an on-board scanner and tablet PC powered by an all-day battery solution. The battery, tablet PC and scanner are all quickly removable for charging or replacement enabling the trolleys to be safely stored outside when not in use to maximize in-store retail floor space. This also enables the trolleys to be used in smaller retail premises where space is at a premium. X2 has also developed a range of custom modular charging solutions housed in secure cabinets with the capacity to store and charge multiple computers and batteries.

The Mobile Picking software, developed by Tlantic, one of Europe's foremost developers of software solutions, automates the planning process at corporate and/or store level and determines the order in which products are picked. It uses store planograms or audits and a flexible range of criteria including picking zones, for example ambient, frozen and chilled, storage times, weight and delivery slots. Flexible process management tools enables the software to be quickly and easily reconfigured to take account of updated store planograms or changing demands, new staff, increased order volumes and so on. Products are scanned as they are picked and, when not immediately available, recommended substitutes are automatically presented in the event of stock outs.
