IP Video — Today And Beyond

By Bob Johns
IP Video is taking the retail world by storm, replacing older analog systems at an increasing rate. A lot of this has to do with reduced costs and improved ROI from coverage, resolution, and analytics. Here, I sit down with Mark Collett, GM of Sony Electronics’ Security Systems Division and Sanford Green, Director, USA Sales & Operations, VSA Division, ImmerVision to discuss the total cost of coverage for IP video. In part 1 of this series, we discuss the total cost of coverage for video. In part 2 we discuss the differences between Fisheye and Panamorph lenses. Here in part 3 we discuss the uses of IP video today and beyond.
Bob: What are some of the uses of IP video that were not even possible 5 years ago?
Mark: IP video can be gathered, stored and analyzed just like any other electronic information, and retailers are taking advantage of this fact much more today than they did even five years ago. From customer behavior and people counting to marketing and product placement, video analytics are providing retailers with new information for better understanding and managing their stores.
