Mobile Devices — Choosing The Right Form For Function

The retail environment is being dramatically altered by the use of mobile devices. But, what devices doe retailers prefer? Here we talk with Bob Grabowski, retail vertical marketing manager with Honeywell Scanning and Mobility, to find out what retailers are looking for in mobility.

What are some of the use cases for the new small-format mobile devices being deployed in retail?

Three to four years ago we realized we needed to support multiple form factors and operating systems. We were getting feedback from retailers that they wanted more diversity and use cases. So, we decided to support iOS and Android. We have developed or are developing a family of sleds called Captuvo that directly support the iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, and iPad Mini. Additionally, we decided to build our own Android devices and create a family called the hybrid mobile devices. The first product to be developed in this family is the Dolphin Black, which feels like a smartphone, but is truly a rugged device.
