Mobility is taking retail by storm. For an industry notoriously slow to implement new technologies, retail has embraced mobility like no other technology before. Here, Brad Fick, owner and president of Direct Source, discusses the reasons for mobility’s rise in retail.
Why has mobile deployment gotten so much momentum in retail, and has anything surprised you during this process?
Fick: Mobile at one time meant basic store functions like inventory, stock verification, and productivity. Now it means something completely different. What we are seeing is an acceleration of Tier 1 retailers implementing consumer grade devices, specifically Apple iOS products and some Android. The iPad Minis, iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches are the main ones being implemented in chains across the country.
