Customers can now use Apple Pay to make online payments.

Two years ago, Staples rolled out a series of omni-channel updates designed to improve the shopping experience for customers and also implemented Apple Pay in-store purchasing via their innovative contactless payment technology, as Innovative Retail Technologies reported. This move allowed customers to make in-store purchases with their iPhone or Apple watch with just a single touch. When Apple Pay launched, it allowed users to tap and pay at more than 220,000 locations. By March 2015, that number had risen to more than 700,000 locations, and today it is available in millions of locations.

Now, Staples has announced that it is extending its Apple Pay capabilities to its mobile website and app, providing customers with an easy, secure, and private way to pay that is also fast and convenient.  Customers using Safari to access Staples’ mobile website can now avoid lengthy account forms and having to fill in shipping and billing information. With just a finger on TouchID, they can use Apple Pay to complete their purchases.

“Staples’ customers demand seamless check-out when making purchases on the go, so they can get back to running their business,” said Faisal Masud, executive vice president, global e-commerce, Staples. “Apple Pay on Staples’ mobile web lets customers securely shop on their phone without having to open an app. We’ve been very pleased with the response to Apple Pay in our iPhone app and look forward to similar success with this new, seamless option on mobile web.”

Apple Pay in-store works with iPhone6 and later as well as Apple Watch. The Staples’ App and mobile website allows users to pay with their iPhone6 and later, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later. Additionally, Apple Pay in Safari also works for users on any Mac introduced in or after 2012 running macOS Sierra, and then confirm that payment with iPhone6 or later or Apple Watch.

Apple Pay is attractive to customers because of its security and privacy. When they use Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, but a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element on the device, and each transaction is provided with a single-use unique dynamic security code.
