Seattle-based, high-end fashion retailer Nordstrom’s plans have not been derailed by a decrease in profits over 2013’s third-quarter. The company is not only maintaining its omni-channel, e-commerce, and brick-and-mortar stores’ growth models, it even bumped up the low-end of its full-year earnings guidance.

Kraft To Receive $2.8 Billion Pay Day From Starbucks

Arbitrator awards food manufacturer damages, attorney fees, and interest after premature termination of business deal. Back in March of 2011, Starbucks decided to end its 13-year-old relationship with Kraft. The coffee-giant was unhappy with the product Kraft was selling in Starbucks’ name in grocery aisles, calling the coffee “unacceptably poor.” The contract between the two would have carried over another year, to March of 2012, and automatically renewed for another 10 years if neither party had agreed to terminate.

Kroger Announces $150 million Growth Initiative

The company plans to build five new Marketplace stores, expand three additional locations, open several new fuel centers, and remodel some existing Kroger stores.

By 2018, coffee chain plans to hire more than 10,000 U.S. military veterans. The world’s largest coffee chain, Starbucks, announced on Wednesday, Nov 6 that it will be hiring at least 10,000 U.S. military veterans along with spouses of active military members in the next five years. Accompanying the announcement, the company says five new and existing Starbucks locations on or near military bases will share a part or each sale, ten cents, with non-profit organizations focused on helping veterans become part of the country’s workforce. The company’s minimum annual donation will total $100,000

Blockbuster Calls It A Bust

Video rental chain closes remaining corporate stores, ends DVD-by-mail service. It won’t be long before a trip to a video store is a thing of the past. Blockbuster, the 28-year old Englewood, CO-based video rental chain announced on Wednesday, Nov 6 that it will be shuttering the doors of its 300 remaining corporate stores early next year. The company also announced it will be shutting down its “Blockbuster By Mail” service in mid-December.
